Pathology and Incidental Findings

Medical Safety Overread

Our default report, included on every scan, gives you peace of mind by focusing on identifying pathology and other incidental findings that may be present in your CBCT scan. DentalRay is the only company to partner with board-certified medical radiologists licensed in the state where the CBCT scan was taken.*

What We Look For

  • Significant infections and pathological changes involving the maxilla and mandible.
  • Abnormalities of the airway and surrounding structures.
  • Conditions affecting the paranasal sinuses.
  • Changes to the temporomandibular joints (TMJs).
  • Pathology involving the spine, cranium, and maxillofacial bones.
  • Calcifications within the soft tissues, including the salivary glands and lymph nodes.

*This report may also be completed by OMRs in states where medical radiologist coverage is low.

Impressions

  • See findings regarding paranasal sinuses which can indicate chronic sinusitis (or acute on chronic sinusitis) in the appropriate context. Consider treatment if clinically indicated and/or referral to Primary Care provider or ENT as needed.
  • Asymmetric right oropharyngeal tonsillar enlargement, as described in findings. Recommend dedicated CT neck with contrast for further evaluation to exclude underlying mass.
  • Carotid atherosclerotic disease present. Reference details and recommendations in findings.

Findings

  • Partial opacification of bilateral maxillary sinuses including dense material, suggesting allergic or fungal sinusitis. Consider treatment if clinically indicated and/or referral to Primary Care provider and/or ENT as needed.
  • Asymmetric enlargement of right palatine tonsil/base of tongue.
  • Calcified plaques involving the visualized carotid arteries. Calcified plaques are pathognomonic for atherosclerotic disease. Please note that this study cannot evaluate for any possible luminal stenosis. Further evaluation with a dedicated vascular imaging study such as CTA, MRA, or Ultrasound or referral to neurology or other specialist could be considered as indicated by clinical presentation and any vascular risk factors.

Customizable, Detailed, Dentition Analysis

OMR Reports

Need a detailed analysis of the dentition to help identify and direct potential dental treatments? Our OMR report focuses on detailed findings related to the maxillary and mandibular dentition, which include:

  • Comprehensive assessment of the dentition for early signs of periapical infection and inflammation.
  • Evaluation of endodontically treated teeth for persistent infection, missed canals, perforations, root fractures, resorption, etc.
  • Measurements for implant planning.
  • Tracing of the mandibular canals.
  • Position of impacted teeth.
  • Annotated Images

This report can be ordered a la carte on any case, at any time. Prefer an OMR report with every case? We’ll set up your account to automatically request one along with the Safety Overread.

OMR Report

Findings

  • Teeth #1, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20 and 32 are missing. Endosseous dental implants are in the sites of missing teeth #14, 19 and 20.
  • PDL space widening is seen at the palatal root apex of endodontically treated tooth #2.
  • Endodontically treated tooth #18 demonstrates probable bone loss along distal lingual surface of the D root, extending from the alveolar crest to the root apex.
  • Perforation of the lingual cortex by implants #19 and 20 is seen. Implant #20 also likely lacks significant lingual bony support along the length of the implant.

Impressions

  • Tooth #2 - PDL space widening, suggestive of persistent apical periodontitis. Correlation with patient symptoms is recommended.
  • Tooth #18 - Probable radicular bone loss along the DL surface of the D root. If clinically confirmed, this finding is most suggestive of a root fracture. Correlation with symptoms is recommended.
  • Implant #19 - Lingual cortical perforation.
  • Implant #20 - Lingual cortical perforation and probable lack of lingual bony support.
